The free Simple Image Gallery (JoomlaWorks) is still one of the best products for inline image gallery handling in Joomla! The one thing that I missed, was the ability to give your images captions, which increasingly became a necessity for my websites. I have used Phoca Gallery too, and am also impressed by its capabilities, but decided I wanted to try the PRO version of Simple Image Gallery as well.
I am thrilled by its capabilities (see demos here). Here are just some of the things I like about it:
- multiple popup engines that you can choose from;
- customized galleries can be created for different articles;
- individual caption/labels possible on popup images, with html tagging for links and formating in the descriptions!
I include a gallery here, to show its capabilities. The photos were taken on a recent safari in Schotia, the oldest private game reserve in South Africa, near Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. We witnessed a warthog (vlakvark) chase and kill by lions from less than 50 meters in an open Landrover. Exciting, but extremely unnerving and cruel (the lions did not think that way!):
