By that time I knew enough of the possible bottleneck a webmaster could create with a normal html designed system. A Content Management System was the only way forward. I chose Joomla! for content-rich sites and WordPress for sites where the main purpose was blogging, and have been extremely impressed with the platform these two CMS's gave me to develop these websites. I have also looked at Drupal, and even developed one site with it, but have discontinued that endeavour for the moment. It is however also an excellent CMS, in my view, but in the end I had to consolidate the amount of time I could invest in another learning curve, and Drupal had to go. Maybe in another life!
Looking back at the road I have travelled with these two platforms, and the number ot other sites I have also created in the process, I realized that I had a need to share my experiences with Joomla! and WordPress. I know there are so many excellent websites that cover this, that I embark on this journey with some hesitation. I am after all not a php of database expert.
But the type of experience I have, could be of some use for people in the same circumstances as I was. For instance, I would want to do something on the website, for example, creating a list in an article of documents in a directory that could be updated automatically with each new addition. And then I would have to work through the (some times hundreds of) different extensions at offer at the excellent Joomla! and WordPress sites, going through the required registrations, installing the different extentions, testing them, evaluating which would do the job the best, and in the end decide which to keep and which to discard. And this can be a daunting and time-intensive journey!
Along the way, I will share some life-stories as well, because God is a reality to me and the one that energizes me for this calling.
Enjoy!
